WELCOME TO LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK
This park is 548 square km in size, and is located on the Shire river, a tributary of the Zambezi.
Liwonde National Park is home to the “big five”. It is the best in SMalawi. The scenery varies and is very beautiful.

There is a very healthy Elephant population and the Shire river overflows with crocodiles and Hippos which are best viewed from a boat on the Shire River. Antelopes such as waterbucks are often seen near the water and small herds of beautiful Sables can be sighted on the flood plains. The park is a success story of conservation turn- around after most of the game population was once wiped out. There is now a growing population of Black Rhinos, Elephants and other species, making Liwonde a breeding ground of wildlife for restocking other parks in the country and beyond.
Birdlife is exceptionally varied. Rare birds includes Pel’s Fishing Owls, Palmnut vultures, Ospreys and Lilians Love Bird.

Access to Liwonde National Park is by road, air and water through the Shire river.
Accomodation and safari activities are managed by Central Africa Wilderness Safaris and Chinguni Hills Lodge.
